Summer’s back at the jazz lounge as guests start to file in. After handing a program to Lily and Daniel, she explains to Kyle why Chance is there, then goes to touch base with him. You’re going with maximum impact to unnerve Diane by choosing this location, he comments. Diane won’t be able to hide her guilt, Summer glares over at her.
Strolling into CL’s, Adam’s told that Summer didn’t want Sally to attend the service. Yes, she knows the baby’s yours, she invites Adam to sit.
Back at the jazz lounge, Nick and his parents discuss Summer planning all this by herself. We must be there for her when the grief sets in.
Across the room, Lauren compliments Daniel on the portrait of Phyllis. He’s then thrilled when Danny arrives with Lucy. OMG! he hugs her tightly.
Jeremy pauses to look at the framed photo of Phyllis then watches Diane looking like she’d rather be anywhere else.
He (Jeremy) has a lot of nerve showing up here, Kyle gripes to Diane, Jack and Summer (who runs over to enlist Chance’s help) Jack offers Jeremy money to stop trying to blame Diane – name your price. Jeremy refuses – Diane’s guilty and going to prison. Chance steps in to insist Jeremy leave (lest he’s the one who ends up behind bars)
Adam’s parenting advice is to roll with the punches. Sally seems to appreciate his guidance and humour.
Kyle’s pissed that Stark’s pointing the finger at his Mom when he’s the one behind all of this. The Baldwins complain about Jeremy to Daniel. Danny quietly excuses himself to ask Lily to keep an eye on Daniel, for Lucy’s sake.
After Chance returns from throwing Jeremy out, Summer asks all to take their seats – we’re about to begin. In her wig and dark dress, Phyllis blends in with the three waitresses.
Adam doesn’t want to talk about his family (except to say that Vikki backed out of buying McCall) Sally has the perfect distraction. She invites him to her next doctor’s appointment – to hear what gender the baby is.
Summer explains that she chose to hold her Mom’s service here because she wants this room to be remembered for Neil – and a place to begin healing. Sad that she didn’t get a chance to make amends with her Mom, Summer now apologizes to the framed photo of Phyllis. I’d give anything to be able to say sorry – and that I believe you, Summer says through her tears.
Adam would love to come to Sally’s appointment. Nick will be there too, she’s sure he’ll be OK with her inviting Adam. A little boy or girl, we’ll know soon – how great is that? Adam’s thrilled.
Summer asks all to raise a glass. To my Mom; who loved deeply and was loved deeply in return. Asked to say a few words, Daniel’s unprepared. Despite Lucy’s encouragement, he sits back down – I can’t.
Nick stands beside Summer to talk about his love story with Phyllis. If he was asked to describe Phyllis in ten words or less, he couldn’t. She was fearless and adventurous, funny. When you made her mad, look out – she loved you kids so much. She was one of a kind, he chokes up.
Jack’s turn. His long history with Phyllis is a story of extremes. Nick’s right – she was one of a kind. Exasperating, stubborn, etc. He shares the story of Phyllis giving birth to Summer in an elevator. Your Mother loved you and your brother more than anything in this world. As Diane looks displeased, Jack raises his glass; here’s lookin’ at you Red, he toasts the portrait. Phyllis is still silently hiding in plain sight to watch.
Ooh! Sally thinks she feels the baby moving. When she puts his hand on her belly, Adam confirms – it is indeed the baby. He or she has quite the kick. They continue to enjoy the moment.
The Baldwins step up to eulogize Phyllis. So many highs and lows. It’s too bad she was taken from us on the downswing.
God knows Phyllis and I had our differences, but when Nikki collaborated with her on a special project, she came to appreciate how her mind worked. She had creative solutions to prickly problems and never, ever gave up. Diane squirms while Phyllis smiles.
Jeremy’s back at the motel. Phyllis, where the hell are you?! You will NOT screw this up for me, he says with determination.
Nikki’s still gushing about Phyllis when Chance gets a text from the station. We know who bought the strychnine. Chance wants a name.
Summer hugs her grandmother. Would anyone else like to speak? Lucy – she’s really glad Phyllis came to Portugal. Taking her Dad’s hand, she tells him that Phyllis taught her to never to be too proud to say you’re sorry. Love is so much more important.
The name of the person who bought the strychnine? Diane Jenkins. As if he’s surprised by the info, Chance sits down and stares at the back of Diane’s head.
