On the CL’s patio, Chance surprises Amanda by saying he sees where Devon’s coming from, moreso than Abby. It’s me he’s concerned about, isn’t it?
When Billy asks if there’s anything new on the ‘Newman front’, Lily shows him the text Adam sent her; ‘Good luck with Chancellor’. Yes, of course it’s a threat. That’s why she went to confront him. Billy’s glad he got under Adam’s skin. Lily told him and Ashland that he’s coming to CI to be her COO – and now I can tell the world.
No worries Ashland, Adam would never underestimate his brilliant sister, but this time it was a swing and a miss – her plan to drive a wedge between him and Victor has backfired. Oh my, the paranoia is running rampant, Vikki scoffs at the idea that Newman Media is competition. Adam thought he’d earned Ashland’s loyalty after his help with Gaines. Vikki warns that ‘our Father may not always have your back’. And he may not have always have yours, or Ashland’s (he says pointedly before abruptly leaving them to look concerned)
Back at the ranch, Victor tells Mike that there’s things in the works pertaining to Newman Locke, Newman Media and ChanceCom – he’s seen signs of immaturity in Adam (who’s doing a good job) Due to recent events, he plans to protect his legacy by taking a more active role in the various Newman factions. And who better than the brightest legal mind in town to assist him. Also, there’s Ashland – Victor doesn’t trust him.
No, Vikki’s not concerned about Adam’s warning. Ashland admires her confidence but is it possible Victor isn’t as supportive as she thinks? He loves the game and the win, Vikki’s sure she planted a seed in her Father’s head about Adam. No, Ashland’s not scared by his wife’s ruthlessness – we make a formidable team.
Chance may have been a bit too honest with Devon the other night. He’s doing much better now and vowing to be the best Father he can be to Dominic, wants Devon to be involved – the more people who love Dominic the better. Amanda couldn’t agree more – Devon just wants to be able to take care of Dominic in his home at prearranged times. He’s been essential to Dom since the very beginning, she adds.
Dominic has a Father, Chance – we’re reunited and healing after missing so much time already! Abby’s sure Devon suing them for custody will only make things worse.
Devon doesn’t think it’s Dominic’s job to heal Chance and has little hope they can come to an agreement without going to court. He’s doing what’s best for Dom. No, you’re doing what’s best for you! Abby tears up. When Amanda and Chance return, Devon’s also on the verge of tears as he thanks them for listening. Once alone, Chance asks Abby why she’s so upset. Devon won’t listen – we need to call Christine, she sniffles.
Mike was under the impression that Victor welcomed Ashland into the family with open arms. He loves Vikki and she loves him but Victor’s learned some unsavory things about Ashland. He built Newman Enterprises from the ground up. It doesn’t sit well that it’s now named Newman Locke – and he’s never trusted an outsider to run the company – never.
Lily’s already composed a press release to announce Billy coming onboard as her COO. Putting the tablet and their champagne flutes aside, it’s more sexy time.
We have to fight with everything we have! Abby doesn’t think there’s anything to talk about – wait, you don’t think Devon has a right to do this, do you? she asks Chance.
At home, Devon relays Abby’s concern that him going after custody might unravel her family. Chance was very understanding – but Amanda prepares him; you might have to put Chance on trial in order to win custody. Devon’s sorry it may come to that.
Victor can’t rule it out that Ashland ‘might try to pull something’ – what if he recovers and regrets the merger? He wants his old buddy/bright legal mind at his side. Mike loves this kind of legal chess. They clink their glasses and drink to one another’s good health.
