Jack won’t let Phyllis believe she wasted her time – sure, Summer’s still in Italy, but now by choice. You always know the right thing to say and I love you for it, Phyllis knows it must be hard on Jack too; losing Kyle AND Harrison. It’s not about me. Ah – that’s my problem, it’s always about me, Phyllis jokes. She can’t take Jack up on his offer to tag along to Italy but Phyllis asks him to swing by and pick something up to deliver to Summer.
Rey stops by Adam’s office to ask when he last had contact with Mariah. I’m your first stop whenever someone goes missing? Adam sneers – do you want to search the office? Rey asks him to take this seriously – this is Sharon’s daughter after all. Adam gripes that Rey’s still determined to pin something on him. Odds are, one day I will, Rey’s sure.
If Mariah’s really missing, Adam hopes she’s found safely. Rey then asks how Chelsea’s doing. Fine – I’ll let her know you asked about her next time she calls. Barging in with Sally, Chloe’s quicky dismissed Detective Rosales isn’t done with me yet, he sighs.
Lauren doesn’t think Gloria’s right for the job. And no, it’s not because she’s too old. Gloria wants to make JCV inclusive to all ages – to implement diversity. Lauren admits she’s not wrong. Glo asks for time to show Lauren what she can do. Calling an end to the productive meeting, Gloria leaves Lauren to wonder what just happened? Did she just accept a job she wasn’t offered? Again!?
At CL’s, Sally asks Chloe what happened. Chloe’s not sure why Rey was there – any time she sees Adam with a cop she assumes he’s about to be arrested. Why did you bring your luggage to work? she asks. Sally was kicked out of Phyllis’ hotel. No, she’s not leaving town and looks forward to proving wrong everyone who doubted her.
Jack comes back home to find Ashland having fun with Harrison. How are you feeling? Fine – Ashland remains chipper as he talks of how proud he is of Harrison; remember, Daddy Kyle’s in charge – he loves you very much. Summer does too. Sensing Ashland’s distress, Jack sends Harrison out to again ask if he’s OK. No, Ashland’s not – but it’s how things have to be.
Joining Chloe and Sally, Gloria takes a seat to say how sorry she is that Sally was fired. Impressed by how she stayed in tune with the young demographic, she wonders who Sally followed online. It helps to be one of the young people, Sally states the obvious. Chloe takes Sally onto the patio to say that Gloria wasn’t just being nice, she has an agenda. Inside, the wheels turn in Gloria’s head.
Jack admires the way Ashland’s handled the situation. He loves that boy and will always do what’s best for him. Jack will too. Hey, there’s room on the plane if you want to come with us, he offers. Ashland thinks that gracious but the flight would wipe him out – a clean break is probably best. You’ll see him again, Jack firmly believes that and likes to think he’d handle things with as much courage and dignity as Ashland has. Appreciative, Ashland goes to say goodbye to his boy.
Having moved over to the bar, Mike jokes that Gloria might be enrolling in high school to better relate to the younger generation. Lauren finds Glo entertaining. Sally was good at her job but Jack’s better off without her. If only he could find someone as perfect as I have in you. There’s a great romance for everyone out there, the Baldwins clink glasses.
Bringing a wrapped gift box to Jack’s, Phyllis asks Jack to take a look at it. Wow, she’s so tiny and beautiful, and so are you, Jack tears up at the framed photo of Phyllis holding baby Summer. Phyllis thinks Summer lucky to have a future father-in-law who loves her as she does. He’s sure Summer’s going to be OK – she’s with the love of her life. That’s something you never take for granted. Phyllis seems deeply impacted by Jack’s words.
Chloe and Sally are back in Adam’s office yet again. He asks about the luggage in the break room. Sally was indeed given the heave-ho – but Phyllis did her a favour and the bags will be gone by the end of the day, she promises. Left alone with Adam, Chloe’s updated that Mariah’s missing and hopes she’s OK. After Chloe leaves, Adam texts Sharon – if there’s anything I can do to help ….. ominous music.
