Victor explains to Nikki that Sutton’s accused of arranging the murder of someone employed by Newman. Amanda’s defending Sutton and trying to shift blame, possibly to me. How did Amanda get involved? That’s is a good question; one Victor will find the answer to.
It’s none of Mike’s business why Sutton’s put all his trust in Amanda. Mike lists the charges that could put the esteemed Sutton Ames behind bars for life. The deal? Plead guilty to second-degree homicide. 20 years? Amanda guesses Mike wants to avoid court because he doesn’t have a strong case. Or, Mike doesn’t want to see an elderly gentleman with no previous record spend the rest of his life behind bars. Amanda rejects the offer. Don’t be so quick, Mike still looks smug – you can’t win this case.
Devon appreciates Nate’s honesty and is sure the right woman will come along soon. Nate appreciates getting to the point that they can talk like this. Asking what Devon has planned to honor the anniversary of Neil’s passing, Nate agrees he’d want the Winters to come together; it’s what we all need.
Faith can’t help but worry – Dad may have gotten Adam on the plane but he’s still on the run from the police. True, but Sharon has faith that the family (especially Victor) will make it happen.
Still smug, Mike lays out his facts; Richard Neelan was working in Newman’s accounting department when he came across payments to Sutton’s campaign for ‘consulting work’; payments that coincided with permitting issues (obstructing NE) that disappearing into thin air. A bribery scandal would have ruined Sutton’s political career and sent him to prison. Then, Richards’s brakes were tampered with and he died in a car accident. Sutton had everything to gain by having Richard silenced. Amanda was her own theory but won’t share it in a hotel lobby – see you in court. On cue, Victor saunters in.
Well, this is fortuitous timing, Victor assumes Mike and Amanda are discussing Sutton Ames. Yes, and sure she can reclaim her client’s good name, Amanda assures ‘this isn’t a personal attack’ – just the facts. Mike believes the jury will rule based on the prosecution’s facts. Amanda excuses herself – she has a winning argument to prepare. Victor gets to his next matter – has Mike asked Rey to investigate Chelsea? Mike thinks Victor’s energy would be better spent on Faith.
At GCM, Nate tells Sharon that Faith hasn’t responded to steroid treatment – she’s on the list for a kidney transplant but it could take a long time – how’s the search for a living donor coming along?
In the boardroom, Jack announces that Jabot’s factories are all reopening next week. Kyle’s told not to blame himself. But, looking ahead, there IS something Jack wants from him and Summer.
At Society for takeout, Devon chats with Victor (who appreciates his concern about Faith and Moses being such a good friend to her) Of course he’ll attend the event in Neil’s honor and thinks the jazz label a good idea. Confirming that Devon is seeing Amanda Sinclair, Victor fishes for info on why she’d take Sutton’s case. Only Amanda can answer that, Devon says politely and leaves.
Jack wants permission to throw Kyle and Summer an engagement party. Both love the idea (and his support) You have that now and always, Jack enthusiastically vows.
Yes, it’s a miracle that a match for Faith has been found but not willing to say more for fear of jinxing it, she changes the subject by heaping praise on Nate for taking such good care of Faith.
In her suite, Amanda tells Devon that she had a run-in with Victor. Devon did too – and yes, he was fishing. Amanda must keep her guard up; Victor will use any weakness against me to win.
