As Nick and Adam now spar over their differing versions of Delia’s death, the Judge orders ‘not another word’. He needs to review all of this new material and will let them know when he’s made a decision – this hearing is adjourned. All standing, Nick and Adam glare at one another.
Listen, Abby’s just as leery of going into business with Phyllis but we’re both smart and have learned to watch our backs. We’re not friends (just as Phyllis isn’t friends with Adam) She’ll handle her family and we both expand our brands and make a lot of money. Whaddaya say? What the hell, Phyllis shakes Abby’s hand – let’s go for it. It’ll be a wild ride, Abby grins.
Returning to the penthouse, Adam pours a drink and looks at a framed photo of Connor. Sharon gets off the elevator, pauses before knocking – then shakes her head and gets back on the elevator.
Nick comes home to mope over Christian’s toys. How’d it go? Chelsea comes in to ask – she saw the video. Nick’s sure everyone has – he was mad at his Dad (and the whole world) Chelsea understands. Nick’s depressed – everything he said came out wrong; he’s lost confidence and now worried he’ll lose Christian. Chelsea sits to give him a comforting hug.
Theo arrives at Society on time and full of praise for his meeting with the hottest real estate developer in GC. One of Phyllis’ million tasks before the hotel opens is choosing a name – got any ideas? Theo does – based on Phyllis’ story – The Grand Pheonix. No, it’s not exactly subtle – but neither are you. Officially hiring Theo to manage the opening, Phyllis is invited to share her vision; a destination boutique hotel; an artistic vibe etc. etc. Noticing Theo on his phone, she doesn’t feel like she has his full attention. I just sent you the first 15 A-listers for the guest list, Theo impresses Phyllis. Less impressed is Summer when she arrives for their dinner date. Theo assures Phyllis that her opening is in good hands – trust me. Summer looks uncomfortable as her Mom and Theo shake hands.
Still on the patio, Kyle hopes his past doesn’t change his future with Lola. It was a very specific time – I was in a bad place. Knowing who put Kyle in that bad place, Lola’s sad – it always comes back to Summer.
Nick now regrets going into the hearing without a lawyer. I let Adam bait me and failed to get across how much I love that little boy. It’s in your eyes, written all over your face – Chelsea’s sure the Judge will see that (Christian belongs with you) Appreciating Chelsea being there with him, Nick leans in for a kiss when Adam can be heard loudly telling ‘Monique’ that he doesn’t need an appointment to see his own brother. Well, isn’t this cute? Behind every man is a woman who feels sorry for him. Adam only came to console Nick (who shouldn’t blame himself) He’ll make the transition as smooth and painless as possible. Reminded that he hasn’t won yet, Adam’s sure Nick knows that he has. If you’re here gloating, I take it Sharon didn’t talk any sense into you? Chelsea appeals to Adam – we all know why you’re acting like this; it’s about Victor – you don’t want to hurt your own child. Let’s talk this out and come up with a solution. Fine, Adam’s solution is for Chelsea to move back into the penthouse with him; right now. They (and Connor) will resume the life they had before he ‘died’. And you’ll drop the custody suit?
Kyle wasn’t thinking about Summer while he was in New York. He used her as an excuse to do whatever the hell he wanted, with whoever he wanted. And when you came back to GC? Lola asks. Yes, Kyle pursued Summer – but there was nothing real left between us. She didn’t think so – she wanted you back, Lola points out. But, it was too late – everything changed for Kyle the Wednesday he got a sandwich from a pretty girl who smiled at him from her food truck. In that smile, Kyle saw … everything.
You working with my Mom is a bit weird, Summer admits as she sips on her drink. Is it? Theo thinks Phyllis is smart – he’s not surprised or concerned that she’s made a lot of enemies. Is this all about your Mom or is something else going on? With her Dad’s hearing and everything else going on, Summer doesn’t need any more drama. Theo’s sure there won’t be – this might actually be fun.
Don’t – Nick hopes Chelsea isn’t seriously considering this – we’ll find another way. You’d have to be insane to think I’d go anywhere with you, Chelsea rejects Adam; who now claims he was just testing to see how far she’d go for Nick (not that far bro) Stop trying to trade things for my son! Nick fumes. Stop, both of you, Chelsea snaps when Christian toddles in.
All fussing over Christian, Chelsea takes him to the kitchen for a drink. The brothers are left to lock eyes.
Kyle won’t make excuses for the man he was before he met Lola. All he can say is that he’s changed. Lola knows that – she just can’t help but notice that Kyle’s different when around Theo. Kyle agrees – that’s why he has no interest in spending time with Theo and his vapid, self-absorbed life. I want no part of it. Neither notice Theo watching and listening in the doorway.
Still taking up table space at Society, Phyllis is on the phone. Yes, everything is in place for Summertime Inc. Pull the trigger on the second acquisition we discussed – now.
You took good care of my son, Adam admits. He trusts Nick will continue to act in Christian’s best interests while he adjusts to his new situation. Whatever happens in court, Nick vows to make Adam pay. You were right about some things today. I am a good Father to Christian. And you might want to watch that video again – know who you’re dealing with.
