Downstairs, Phyllis joins Kyle and Billy (looking for Yack to return the wallet he left behind) No, they haven’t seen him, but are glad she’s there. Is Phyllis shocked that Gabe is Yack’s son? What does she know? He didn’t know until recently that Gabe was his son. The whole thing is a lot to take in, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. Billy’s gut tells him that Gabe’s no Abbott. Phyllis is beginning to feel the same way about Yack.
Yack meets Adam at the park – lemme guess – your new family doesn’t believe you’re an Abbott. Fine, let’s do a paternity test. Yes, but that’ll prove I’m not your son, Adam points out. Yack wonders if Adam’s worried he’ll be proven not an Abbott or that he IS a Newman.
Asked to elaborate, Phyllis says that Yack’s not acting like an Abbott. Yes, the guys agree – odd considering he practically wrote and enforced the Abbott rule book. Phyllis barely recognizes him. He’s nothing like John – he’s cold and cut throat; doing explainable things out of character – like the merger. Phyllis has some questions for Yack. The guys do too – and Billy plans to get answers.
Yack will take care of the paternity results. He told this lie because he got backed into a corner. Adam doesn’t think that like Yack – he’s complicated everything. His plan to bring Victor down sucks! And Chelsea’s not even talking to me. Oh, that’s what this is about? Yack’s #1 priority is bringing Victor down. After that, everything will fall into place. Adam’s left unconvinced.
Arriving at the club, Cane knows what he must do – make amends to Lily (while Lauren’s off to the boutique) You guys have something worth fighting for. Joe comes down to say no, he hasn’t seen Lily. Let’s have a drink at the bar. OK, Joe agrees. Over beers, Cane confides he’s there to work things out with Lily. Marriage isn’t easy, Joe agrees. Perhaps he shouldn’t have thrown in the towel when Avery made the mistake of cheating. Lily isn’t Avery – she’d never cheat on me (that’s the one thing Cane knows)
Paul’s hands are tied – he has nothing to go on. He mentions the stress Avery’s been under. What!? Avery’s cracking under the pressure and making things up!? Her judgment is NOT ‘clouded’ – she sees things very clearly now. Paul can’t arrest Joe without evidence. Lily creeps in through the door left ajar. Is everything OK? Avery complains that the police aren’t interested in Joe stalking her. Unable to answer any questions re: Joe’s whereabouts, Lily’s left to admit to Avery that she slept with him.
Lily assures Avery that sex with Joe was consensual – she was drinking and mad at Cane when Joe came in. What have I done?! Destroyed my marriage … my kids! She’s there to ask Avery if Joe can be trusted (to keep his mouth shut) Yes, Avery knows Joe wants respect, but stay away from him. Lily’s in tears, she’s a hypocrite. What’s wrong with me!? I can’t face Cane wearing this dress. She’s grateful when Avery offers her shower and some clothes. Oh, and Joe may not have an alibi – he wasn’t there when she woke up. He went for a walk. He could have been anywhere.
Joe warns Cane to careful about putting Lily on a pedestal – she’s human, he reminds. Cane remains convinced she wouldn’t cheat, not after all they’ve overcome – the marriage isn’t that broken. Once Lily forgives him, everything will be fine.
Paul comes through the revolving door to chat with Lauren. He’s sorry to hear she signed divorce papers. Told that Mike could use a friend, Paul worries about HER going through this alone. I’m not, she murmurs as she looks over at Cane (Paul distracted with his phone)
Yack joins Billy and Kyle’s table. Now that Victor’s been charged, we need to discuss the next move. Yes, a family meeting includes Gabe. Well Billy and Kyle want a DNA test done. Yack absolutely agrees.
Meeting up at the lab’s office, Adam assures Phyllis that he won’t start calling her ‘Mom’ – and he understands the frosty reception he’s getting from the Abbott’s. Chelsea’s pissed at him too. Phyllis understands that – you expect the person you love to be honest with you. Yack’s got a long list of secrets. Yes, she forgave him for lying about Kelly. Something changed after we got married. He’s not the man he used to be. Adam agrees – Yack’s changed. Why would YOU say that? You don’t know the old Jack, Phyllis catches the slip.
Yack and I worked together before I came to GC, Adam reminds Phyllis. So yes, he’s seen the change in him (but chalks it up to stress) Phyllis is so worried she’s doing things she never did before; like going through his wallet for clues. Find anything? Nope but Phyllis is scared – she caught him drinking. Then he announced he was merging Jabot with NE. There’s tons of little things, like the way Yack dresses. Something’s missing. Something she no longer sees in his eyes; they’re empty. We don’t connect or laugh the way we used to. Phyllis misses her husband. Adam doesn’t think it sounds silly at all – he understands completely.
Yack had an affair with Gabe’s Mother, he wants to know for sure too. Trusting Yack to arrange it, Billy assures him that the test will prove Gabe’s not his son. Now alone, Yack carefully bags Kyle’s glass and puts it in his briefcase.
Lily thanks Avery for the shower and loan of a dress. Avery’s been where she is; it’s a lonely place. Lily will stay away from Joe and put this night behind her.
Paul drops by Joe’s suite with a few questions. Where was he earlier this evening? Did he go to Avery’s apartment? Joe was here. Can anyone verify that? Can anyone vouch for your presence at the club this evening?
Lauren joins Cane at the bar. He couldn’t find Lily and doesn’t think it a good idea if Lauren waits until she shows up. Um – too late. Lily looks sheepish as Lauren discreetly leaves. Cane makes a joke about her pulling surveillance footage, then apologizes – he loves Lily. You can trust me. All I want is you. Let’s start over. Lily would like to try. Starting over would be great ~hug~ But she’s stiff and unsmiling in Cane’s arms as he apologizes again.
